Austin Zed’s, Sake Tasting on Radio Shows

Our 21st Year of Eating, Drinking and Talking about It!

HOUSTON Saturdays and Sunday 4-5 p.m., NewsRadio 740 KTRH

A Presentation of Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods

SATURDAY: One of the newest restaurants to generate excitement in the Austin area is called Zed’s. Though the place is only minutes away from the frazzle of I-35, and not that far north of Austin’s bustling downtown, architect Michael Hsu has created a water-graced oasis that says goodbye to all that. We chat with executive chef Jim Matteson about his menu of mostly American but also surprisingly global comfort-food favorites. And in our Grape & Grain tasting segment, we let Collin Williams of Spec’s try to convince us we actually like Japanese sake. Collin (and his new crop of sakes) can be very persuasive.

SUNDAY: Rodeo, it’s what’s for dinner. In celebration of our Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, we have a chat and a tasting with the folks who feed the masses out at Reliant Park – including Rick Harsch, chairman of the committee that decides who gets to cook for us and who doesn’t, who gets to chicken-fry what and who gets to stick what, well, on stick. In our Sunday arts segment, we stroll through the current high-profile MFAH Impressionism exhibit with both the local curator and the original one from the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
