Pico’s Fajitas Featured on Houston DM

Posted on

HOUSTON: Saturdays and Sundays 4-5 p.m., NewsRadio 740 KTRH

SATURDAY: “Internet Fajitas” may be an idea whose time has come, and it figures Pico’s here in Houston would pioneer a system for ordering the things online and then getting them delivered to your door. You might say, when that happens, the virtual becomes the victual. And Picos owner Arnaldo Richards, always an innovator at what he calls his “Mex-Mex” restaurant, joins us to tell about it. Something tells me we’ll be tasting fajitas as well. Also on today’s show, we sample and talk cocktails with two of the world’s best mixologists: Matthew Pommeroy (global mixology ambassador for Luksusowa from Poland) and Charles Vexenat (elected best bartender in the UK in 2007). Plus, we learn some juicy details about Wine Week in the Woodlands. Grape-juicy, that is.

SUNDAY:  As much as we know and love Pico’s (see above) as one of our go-to Mexican restaurants in Houston, we are excited to tell anyone about Yelapa Playa Mexicana. And in these long, hot summer months, everybody needs a relaxing trip to the beach. Surprisingly, since Yelapa is totally Inside the Loop, that trip is what it serves up best. Exec chef T.J. Wiley joins us, along with the eatery’s owner and its general manager, all to chat about how “fun in the sun” gets expressed in terms of light, super-flavorful foods – and maybe a few colorful cocktails along the way. Also on today’s show, we talk books with New York Times best-selling author John Sandford, whose latest “Storm Prey” marks 20 years of breathless novels starring Lucas Davenport.

About John DeMers

I've been a journalist and author forever. My favorite single word in the English language is "foodandwine." This spirit drives my 45 published books and my weekly radio show heard in Houston, Dallas and Austin.
