Hyatt Hill Country Resort on Austin DM

AUSTIN: Saturdays 10-11 a.m. on Talk 1370 

We really like Chef Troy Knapp at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort just outside the sprawl of San Antonio – and no, not just because he cooked a wonderful lunch for us doing our recent visit. We were especially impressed by the fact that he’s a trained and certified sommelier. This means he barely ever cooks anything for anybody without also coming up with a wine that’ll suit it perfectly. As part of the same broadcast from the resort, we sit down for a super-VIP tasting of bourbons with one of the guys who’s done the most for this American spirit, Bill Samuels Jr. of Makers Mark. Back a couple decades ago, when bourbon was just something Texans poured into their Coke to get a buzz, Bill’s father started pioneering steps toward quality that would increase both price and pleasure. We personally would like to thank the Samuels, pere et fils, for doing that.
