AUSTIN: Saturday 10-11 a.m. on Talk 1370
If you love “comfort food” the way we love comfort food, then you’ve probably been in love with Moonshine in downtown Austin even longer than we have. The placed, which grew out of the restaurant called Saba Blue Water Grill in both Austin and Houston, may well be the ultimate expression of Chyef Larry Perdido’s percular and extraordinary talents. Come on, who’s not gonna like shrimp corn dogs or bison meatloaf or mac and cheese that’s better than almost anybody’s Mama’s. Larry has us sit down for a tasting (man, I hate my job) and a talk about what drives him forward as a chef – and what inspires Moonshine to keep getting a little bit better every day.
If you think the wines sold as Gemtree and the wines sold as Perelada sound like they might be very different wines from very different places, you’d be right. Gemtree comes to us all the way from sunny Australia, while Perelada (not surprisingly, considering its name) comes to us from sunny Spain. Besides the helpful presence of all that sunshine, key account manager David Begg explains how this two faraway wineries have joined forces to take on the US market. And of course, this being the Grape & Grain segment, he has to bring plenty of wines for us to taste.
