AUSTIN: Saturday 10-11 a.m. on Talk 1370 AM
This week, the Austin show goes on the road – but as we should, we keep the focus in and on Texas. We had the chance recently to, in a matter of several lucky days, sit down with three of the best chefs we know in the Lone Star State. First we catch up with Dallas’ own Dean Fearing, long revered for his work at the Mansion on Turtle Creek. Over the past couple years, Dean has taken his talent to the new, sparkling and definitely pampering Ritz-Carlton Hotel – opening a remarkable and multi-faceted space called Fearing’s. Between what we see and what they feed us, we’ll be happy indeed.
At lot closer to home, in San Antonio, we catch up with other revered chef leaving his main safety net behind. Andrew Weissman was nationally recognized for his oh-so-French Le Reve, so of course he closed the place. He closed it, though, to spend more sanity-time with his wife and kids while opening several new food and beverage outlets at the reborn Pearl Brewery complex, starting with an Italian eatery called Il Sogno. Le Reve… Il Sogno… “The Dream” in any language, get it? And finally, we just couldn’t eat our way in and out of north Texas without sharing a radio meal with Jon Bonnell, he being the force behind Bonnell’s Fine Texas Cuisine. Jon opened in Fort Worth a couple weeks after 9/11, and he’s being offering comfort in the form of food ever since.
